Russian painter. Studied at St. Petersburg Art Academy in the studios of M. Vorobyov and B. Vellevalde. Traveled to France and Italy (1853-1860) and to Caucasus, Crimea and Balkans. Painted seascapes. Emphasized portraying the light through a light, airy perspective. In his works combined plain air composition with superficial color effects of academic romantic painting.
