Nikolay Ge was born in Voronezh in 1831. He studied at the St. Petersburg Art Academy in 1850-1857 in the studio of P. Vasin. Worked in Rome in 1857-1859 and Florence in 1860-1869. Lived in St. Petersburg since 1870. Moved to Chernigov region in 1876. Nikolay Ge is known for his historical paintings and portraits. The artist died in the village of Ivanovskiy, Chernigov region in 1894.
