Painter, watercolorist and etcher. Painted genre battle paintings and illustrations. Studied at Imperial Academy of Arts in 1859-1863, class of historical picture in the studios of F. Bruni and A. Markov. In 1867 became academician. In 1869 traveled to Caucasus, Crimea, Kharkiv and Voronezh regions. In 1871 received a scholarship to study abroad. Lived in Düsseldorf until 1874. In 1874-1875 lived and worked in Munich, Vienna and Paris. He stayed in Paris until 1884. Worked on a number of battle paintings. A cycle of his paintings were dedicated to Russia-Bulgarian war, executed in 1877-1878. Lived in St. Petersburg since 1884. Dmitriev-Orenburgsky died in St. Petersburg in 1898. |
