Igor Emmanuilovich GRABAR 1871 — 1960Ігор Емануїлович ГРАБАР • Игорь Эммануилович ГРАБАРЬIgor Emmanuilovich Grabar was born in 1871 in Budapest. He studied law at St. Petersburg University and after graduation entered St. Petersburg Art Acedemy in 1893. Later he studied art in Paris and Munich. After return from Germany Grabar briefly studied in the studio of Repin. Later he returned to Munchen where he studied in the art school of Azbe. Since 1901 Grabar lives and works in St. Petersburg where he started together with Scherbakov a group called «Contemporary art». The artist traveled to Norther Russia studying old wooden architecture. Since 1902 participated in exhibitions organized by «Art World» (Mir Isskusstva). In 1906 participated in the exhibition organized by Diaghilev. First Grabar was a realist painter and a member of Moscow landscape painters group. Later he developed petit-point style and became one of the greatest Russian pointeallists. The artist died in Moscow in 1960. |
