Olena KULCHYTSKA 1877 — 1967Олена Львівна КУЛЬЧИЦЬКА • Елена Львовна КУЛЬЧИЦКАЯOlena Lvivna Kulchytska was born in Berezhany, Ternopil region, Ukraine in 1877. In 1901-1902 studied at the Lviv Art College where she studied in the studio of Stefanovych. Later studied in a private art school of S.Botovsky-Kachor and R.Bratkovsky. In 1907 the artist graduated from the Vienna Art Academy. She had her first solo exhibition in Lviv in 1909. In 1912 she participated in a group exhibition in Kyiv. Kulchytska worked in a number of media, including painting, works on paper, textile, sacral art, decorative folk art and furniture. She taught graphic art at the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute in Lviv in 1945-1954. In 1967 Kulchytska received T.H.Schevchenko National Award. The artist did not have a family and dedicated her whole life to art. She founded a museum “Stryvigor” in Przemyśl, Poland, where she lived a worked for some time. The artist died in 1967 in Lviv. |
