Mikhail Vasilievich Nesterov was born in Ufa in 1862. Studied at Moscow College of Art, Sculpture and Architecture in 1877-1881 and 1884-1886 in the studios of V. Perov A. Savrasov, and I. Prianishnikov; at Imperial Academy of Arts in 1881-1884 in the studio of P. Chistakov. Visited Italy, France, Germany, Greece. Lived in Moscow, in 1890-1910 – Kyiv. Painted historical, religious painting, landscapes, and portraits at the Soviet time. Also monumentalist and illustrator. Died in Moscow in 1942.
