Moved to Constantinople in 1919. in 1923 settled in Paris where he worked in cabaret as a musician until 1930s. In 1929 became interested in painting. Studied in the studios of Frosho and Grand Shomier. In 1933-1937 – in the art school of Slaid in London. In 1931 exhibited at Druon Gallery. Exhibited in 1932 at the French Art Salon and in 1935 at the National Fine Art Salon. In 1937 – personal exhibition at Zack gallery. In 1937 met Wassiliy Kandinsky and Robert and Sonia Delaunay. Late 1930s stopped painting figurative paintings and turned into abstract art. Works of S. Poliakoff represent a constant search of new forms and compositions. Besides exhibiting in Paris, in 1950s and 1960s Sergei Poliakoff exhibited in Berne, Munich, London and New York. Died in Paris in 1969. After his death personal exhibitions took place in Paris in 1970, New York in 1971 and Tel Aviv in 1972. |
