Studied at Odessa Art College in 1899-1903; Imperial Academy of Arts in 1903-1911. Active in Novocherkassk in 1918-1931; Moscow thereafter. Began exhibiting in 1907. Member of Society of Russian Watercolourists in 1916-1917; AKhR/R 1925-1931; Union of Soviet Artists in 1931-1932. Exhibited with World of Art. Served in Russian Army in 1912-1917; Red Army in 1920-1926. Taught in Red Army art studios early in 1920s. Officially-celebrated battle-painter; the Grekov Studio of military artists, created in 1934, was named after him. Died in Sevastopol, Crimea in 1934. |
