In 1923 Alexander Samokhvalov graduated from VKHUTEMAS (since 1944 known as Ilya Repin Institute) in the studio of Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. Since 1914 participated in Art Exhibitions. Member of "Krug" and "October" Artists Associations. Member of LCRAU since 1932.
Painted portraits, genre and historical pictures. Worked in monumental and easel painting, black-and- white art, sculpture, decorative and applied art, and as book illustrator.
The leading theme of his paintings was the image of the Soviet youth.
In 1925 and 1937 A. Samokhvalov was a winner of Gold Medal and diplomas Gran-Prix at the International Art Fair in Paris, France.
Paintings by Alexander SAMOKHVALOV are in State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, and many other museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
