Richard Aleksandrovich Bergholz was born in St. Petersburg in 1865. Studied in Naples, Paris and Dusseldorf; at Imperial Academy of Arts in 1888-1889. Active in St. Petersburg. Began exhibiting in 1887. Member of St. Petersburg Society of Artists until 1903; Society of Russian Watercolorists (head 1904-1918); Comradeship of Artists (founding member); Kuindzhi Society from 1909 (founding member). Exhibited with Itinerants in 1891, 1917. Became an academician in 1905. Became an Active Member of Academy of Arts in 1912. Died in Petrograd in 1920.
