Studied along with Chagall at St. Petersburg studios of S. Zeydenberg and Y. Tsionglinsky and later in Paris at Academy Grande Chaumiere and La Palette. In 1913-1923 executed stage designs for St. Petersburg and Moscow theatres, worked as a book illustrator. Taught at State Free Art Studios in Moscow and Petrograd since 1918. Participated in exhibition organized by World of Art group in 1922 in Petrograd, first Russian art exhibit in Berlin in 1922. In 1925 moved to Paris. Exhibited at Autumn, Independent and other Salone. Participated in group exhibits of Russian artists in Paris, Brussels, Prague. Since 1933 did stage design for Russian and French theatres. Since 1933 worked in the film studios and 1950’s and 1960’s worked as a designer for French and German TV channels. |
