| Ilya BOLOTOWSKY 1907 — 1981Ілля БОЛОТОВСЬКИЙ • Илья БОЛОТОВСКИЙIlya Bolotowsky was born in St. Petersburg in 1907. Lived in Baku and in 1920 moved with family abroad. Studied at the French college of St. Joseph in Istanbul. In 1923 settled in the USA and became American citizen in 1929. In 1924-1930 Bolotowsky studies drawing at the National Arts Club in New York. In 1932 traveled in Europe, where he became inspired by works of Mondrian. In 1936 Bolotowsky founded the abstract-expressionists group called ‘Ten’. The artist taught at numerous art schools. In 1961 started creating three-dimensional abstract composition. Works by Bolotowsky combine inspiration of Mondrian and Russian icon. The artist was also known as a filmmaker. He died in New York in 1981. |
