Nikolai Gustavovich Schilder was born in Nevelsky district, Vitebsk province in 1828. Studied at the Imperial Art Academy from 1846. Painted battle painting. Soon he started painting genre paintings. His work “Seduction” was acquired by P. Tretyak in 1857 becoming one of the first paintings to build his great collection of Russian art. Schilder died in St. Petersburg in 1898.
