Studied at Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1917; Moscow VKhuTeMas/KhuTeIn in 1923-1927. Active in Chernigov in 1917-1922; Moscow thereafter. Important shows include ‘Industry of Socialism’, Moscow in 1939. Also a graphic artist; author of articles on art history. Outspoken defender of French Impressionism in art world debates. He argued that Soviet artists should continue to build upon the achievements of Paul Cezanne. Died at World War II at the front in 1943. |
