Leon Gaspar (also Gaspard) was born in Vitebsk in 1882. Studied at Y. M. Pen’s studio-school, Vitebsk in 1890s; at Odessa Drawing School in 1890s; in Paris in 1900-1908. Active in Ukraine until 1900; Paris 1900-1908; Siberia 1908-1910; Paris from c. 1910 (military service in French army from 1914); USA from 1916; Taos, New Mexico, USA, from 1918 (traveled in Asia in 1921-1924, in North Africa in 1932-1933). Died in Taos in 1964.
