Nicolas ISSAIEV 1891 — 1977Микола Олександрович ІСАЄВ • Николай Александрович ИСАЕВNicolas Issaiev was born near Odessa, Ukraine in 1891. Painter, graphic artist and theatre designer. Issaiev studied in Odessa and Kharkiv in the studios of V. Shuchajev and A. Yakovlev and in the Ranson Academy in Paris. He was in the army during World War I. Immigrated in 1919 to Belgrade where worked at the National theatre as a decorator. In 1925 moved to Paris. Painted landscapes, still life paintings and portraits. Exhibited at many salon exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, Belgrade with the Circle (Krug) group. In 1940-1945 lived in the South of France. After the war traveled to Switzerland, Italy, Spain. Issaiev made illustrations for books by Sharl Bodler, Pier Ronsar, Edgar Allan Poe and Nikolay (Mykola) Gogol. In 1950s and 1960s exhibited in Paris galleries L. Krog, La Boetie, A. Weil and in New York’s gallery P. Bernet. Participated in the exhibition Russian Artists of the Paris School in 1961 and Russian focus in 1974. Died in the vicinity of Paris in 1977. |
