Sokolov, a pupil of Malevich, and Pavel Kuznetsov, both of whom became his teachers. For many years he worked full-tine in a factory, painting in his private time, but in 1956 he stopped working and in 1957 entered the Surikov Art Institute. He was soon expelled, however, for his unorthodox ideas. For many years he worked as a decorator while continuing to paint. He was married for some years to Lydia Masterkova. |
