Studied at Stroganov College in 1897-1905; Imperial Academy of Arts as non-enrolled student in 1906-1912. Active in Moscow until 1906; St. Petersburg in 1906-1912; Rome 1912-1914; Petrograd 1914-1920; Finland 1920-1921; Paris 1921-1935 (visited Spain and Morocco); Leningrad in 1935-1937; Magadan (imprisoned in camp) 1937-1947; Tbilisi, Georgia from 1947. Began exhibiting in 1909. Member of World of Art since 1917; Guild of St. Luke in 1918. Exhibited with New Society of Artists in 1915, 1917; World of Art in 1918, 1921, 1927. Painted pictures using techniques and stylistic features of Renaissance art in 1910s. Taught in New Art Studio, Petrograd from 1915; at Imperial Academy of Arts from 1917; at Shtiglits Technical Drawing College in 1916-1918; at Petrograd Free Art Education Studios in 1918-1920; at Russian Academy in Paris in 1930; at Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1935-1937; at Tbilisi Academy of Arts in 1947-1973. Also a graphic artist, monumentalist, theatre artist. Decorated festivals in Petrograd in 1918. Repressed in 1937-1947. Died in Trilisi, Georgia in 1973. |
