Alexei Venetsianov was born in Moscow in 1780. Genre and portrait painter, draftsman and lithographic artist. Studied in the studio of V. Borovikovsky until 1811. Lived in St. Petersburg. Founded satirical magazine “Zhurnal karikatur na 1808 god v litsach”. During the war of 1812 created many patriotic caricatures. In 1818 settled in a village of Safonkovo in Tver province. In 1824 founded the art school with classes offered in both in St. Petersburg and Safonkovo village. The artist died in Poddubje village, Tver province in 1847.
