Andrey AVINOFF 1884 — 1949Андрій АВІНОВ • Андрей АВИНОВAndrey Avinoff was born in Tulchin, Podolsk in 1884. Active in St. Petersburg and Moscow until 1910s; Exhibited with MTKh in 1904 and 1905. Specialized in landscapes. Best known as a graphic artist. Avinoff was in New York on a trade mission when the Revolution of 1917 broke out. He stayed in the USA. Here Avinoff started out as a commercial illustrator and in 1926 became the director of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburg. The artist died in New York in 1949. |
