Kuprin studied at the Voronezh School of Painting and Drawing (1896); in the private studio of L. E. Dmitriyev-Kavkazsky in St. Petersburg (1902-04); in the Moscow studio of Konstantin Yuon (1904-05) and at the Moscow Art School (1906-10.) In 1910, Kuprin was a founding member of the Jack of Diamonds group. He participated in many exhibitions from 1908 and was a member of various associations: World of Art (1917 and 1921); Being (1926-27); the Society of Moscow Artists (1928-29). Taught at Vchutemas from 1920. His works of 1910s are influenced by Cezanne and fauvism. Later he worked mostly in realistic manner. Died in Moscow in 1960. |
