Yuri KUPER 1940 — Юрій КУПЕР • Юрий Леонидович КУПЕРYuri Kuper was born in Moscow in 1940. Studied at the Moscow Art Academy in 1957-1963. In 1967 became a member of the Artist Union of the USSR. He worked in Moscow as a book illustrator and stage designer. In 1972 immigrated to Israel, later settled in London. In 1973 received a scholarship at the Yaddo Artist Colony, Saratoga Springs, USA. In 1975 settled in Paris. Became a British citizen in 1983. His work is greatly influenced by the concept of emigration as travel to a point of no return: "Emigration is a journey which takes us away from the familiar and the customary; everything changes: the scenery, melody of speech, scents, the silhouettes of objects..." |
