Leon Vasilievich ZACK 1892 — 1980Лев (Леон) Васильович ЗАК • Лев (Леон) Васильевич ЗАКLeon Zack was a painter, sculptor, illustrator and stage designer. Born at Nijni-Novgorod in 1892. Studied at the art studios of Rerberg and Mashkov in Moscow. In 1910s became a member of art group “Mesonin of Poetry”. In 1920 immigrated to Constantinople, lived in Rome and Florence. In 1922 moved to Berlin, where he worked as stage designer of the “Russian Romantic Theatre” of B. Romanov. In 1923 moved to Paris. Exhibited with solo shows in Paris at Aux Quatre Chemins, Simonson, Percier, Galerie d`Art Contemporain. Also exhibited at the gallery A. Manteau in Brussels, participated in group exhibitions at the T. Carmine gallery, at the Russian part of the exhibition “Contemporary French Art” in Moscow in 1928. Also exhibited at the Russian art exhibition in London. Zack was a founding member of the “Russian art shop” group and the Salon of Ultra-Independent. In 1930’s he joined the group of neo-humanists. Zack participated in group exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp, Prague. In 1940’s starts painting abstract compositions. Exhibited at the international art exhibitions in Venice (1949) and London (1958). In 1950’s worked as a interior designer of public spaces, produced cartoons for tapestries. From 1959 lived in Vanves, on the outskirts of Paris, where he died in 1980. |
