Moved to St. Petersburg in 1850 where be became an apprentice and a drawer at the lithography studio of V. Pape. At the same time he started attending evening classes at the Imperial Academy of Art. In 1852 Gun became a full time student of the Academy, where he studied at the studio of P. Basin until 1862. In 1863-1872 the artist traveled in Europe and settled in Paris where he exhibited at the Salons. He received the title of academician and in 1872 upon his return to St. Petersburg became a professor at the Imperial Academy of Art. In 1872 traveled through Russia. In 1874 he became ill and moved to Switzerland where he died in Davos in 1877. |
