Nikolai Efimovich Rachkov was born in Nizhegorod province in 1825. He was introduced to art by his father. The artist first exhibited in 1845 at the exhibition organized by Arzamskaya Art School, where he studied. He was noted for his depiction of female form as well as genre scenes of daily life of the 19th century.
