Studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1850-1858 in the studio of Villevalde. Served in the army as a painter during the Crimean war against Turkey. Received a gold medal for his painting dedicated to Crimean war in 1858. Lived in Warsaw for a year and later traveled in Europe. Lived and worked in Rome and Paris. Returned to Russia in 1863 and traveled to Caucasus. Became an academician in 1865. Last years of his life the artist spent in Crimea. Died in 1878. |
