Saveli Abramovich SORIN 1878 — 1953Савелій Абрамоаич СОРІН • Савелий Абрамович СОРИН Saveli Abramovich Sorin was born to a poor Jewish family in Polotsk, Vitebsk province in 1878. Left home at the age of 16. Lived in Tula and then moved to Odessa where he studied at the Odessa Art School in 1896-1899 in the studio of Kostandi. Entered Imperial Academy in 1899 where he studied in the studios of Tvoroshnikov, Savitsky and Repin. In 1907 received the title of painter. Traveled to Holland and Paris. Painted large size portraits, In 1902 painted one of the first portraits of Maxim Gorkiy. Moved to Tiflis in 1919 where he met Sudeikin and Gorodetsky, Kamensky, Evreninov. Moved to Marcel in 1920. Exhibited in Paris. Also exhibited in London. Often traveled to New York where his works received a very good review in press. Died in New York in 1953. |
