Alexander Svedomsky was born in St. Petersburg in 1848. He studied at the Dusseldorf Art Academy and later in Munich in the studio of Mihály Munkácsy. The artist travelled in Europe and settled in Rome in 1875. Svedomsky died in Rome in 1911.
