Andrei Frantsevich Belloli was born in Rome in 1822. He studied at St. Luke Academy before moving to St. Peterburg in 1859. In Russia he soon gained popularity as a master of decorative art, painting churches and palace plafonds. After receiving recognition from the Court, the artist turned his attention to portraiture. He painted portraits of Countess Apraksina and the Price and Princess Kochubey. Belloli was an active and regular participant in the academic exhibitions. In 1861 he became an Academician of portraiture at the Academy of Arts. He died in St. Petersburg in 1881.
