Albert Albertovich Benois studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. He continued his studies in Munich, under the prominent German watercolorist Hans von Bartels (1856-1913). Upon return to his native St. Petersburg, Benois received government commission – decoration of the Russian Pavilion at the 1911 World’s Fair in Turin, Italy. The artist died in China from tuberculosis in 1930.
