| Alexander Evgenievich IACOVLEFF 1887 — 1938Олександр ЯКОВЛЕВ • Александр Евгеньевич ЯКОВЛЕВAlexander Iacovleff (Aleksandr Evgenievich Yakovlev) was born in St. Petersburg in 1887. Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Studied at St. Petersburg Art Academy (1905-1913). As a student Iacovleff worked with art magazines “Apollone” and “Satirikon” as illustrator. Started exhibition his works since 1909. Became close with Vasily Shukhaev. Iacovleff’s art was inspired by neo-classicism. Traveled to Italy, Spain, Mongolia, Japan and China. Iacovleff became a member of “World of Art” group in 1915. He painted portraits, landscapes, and genre paintings, produced monumental works. Executed mural paintings for Petrograd’s literary cabaret “Comedian’s spot”. Taught architecture in the New Art Studios in Petrograd and also in Boston Fine Art School in the 1930’s. Since 1920 lived in Paris where he died in 1938. |
