Boris Fedorovich Chaliapin was born in Moscow in 1904. He was the son of famous Bass Fedor Chaliapin. Studied with V. Shukhaev in Petrograd in 1919-1920; at Moscow Free Art Studios VKhuTeMas (painting and sculpture) in 1920-1925; at F. Colarossi’s studio-school in Paris from 1925; with K. Korovin and D. Stepanov in Paris in late 1920’s. Active in Moscow until 1925, when emigrated to Paris. Moved to New York in 1935. Also a sculptor. Known for his skilled portraits of the luminaries of his day. Painted conductor Sergei Kussevitsky, sculptors Konenkov and Troubetskoy, artist Konstantin Korovin, Rachmaninoff, and of course Fedor Chaliapin himself. Died in USA in 1982.
