He is a noted representative of the latter period of the Academy style in Russian painting. He is known for his historical scenes and portraits. Buchholtz studied at St. Petersburg in the studios of P. Chisyakov and V. Yakobi. He graduated from the Academy in 1886 with the second highest possible honours. Buchholz taught at the drawing school of the St. Petersburg Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. The artist died in Leningrad in 1942 during the blockade of the city. |
