Studied in private art studio, Moscow; at Kazan University in 1906-1911; took art lessons in Kazan from N.I.Feshin. Active in Moscow; Novoe Abramtsevo, Moscow region. Began exhibiting in 1908. Member of Itinerants from 1914; AkhR/R from 1922; Kuznitsa group from 1920s. Taught at Kazan Art School (history of art) from 1920s. Also a poet. Leading propagandist of realism in 1920s. Died in Moscow in 1967. |
