Nikanor Grigorievich Chernetsov was born in Luch in 1805. Painter and lithographer, brother of a painter Grigoriy Grigorievich Chernetsov (1802-1865). He studied at the St. Petersburg Art Academy in 1823-1827 in the studio of M. Vorobiev. Traveled to Caucasus (1829-1831), Crimea (1833-1836). From 1837 worked together with his brother. Nikanor Chernetsov is known as a landscape painter. His paintings became so popular that one of his 1832 landscapes was hung in the office of the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. In the 1840s, together with his brother, Nikanor visited Italy, Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Greece, and Turkey. The artist has also created an encyclopedia of the Russian South. He died in St. Petersburg in 1879.
