Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovskii (Ovanes Haivazovskii) was born in 1817 in Feodosia, Ukraine. Marine painter, representative of romantic traditional painting. The artist studied at St. Petersburg Art Academy (1833-1837) in the studio of M. Vorobyov in the class of battle painting and later in the studio of French marine painter F. Tanner. In 1839-1840 lived and worked in Crimea. In 1840-1844 traveled and painted in Italy, France, Holland. Since 1845 moved to Feodosia where he built his own art studio. He also opened the first gallery in Feodosia. Traveled through Ukraine but also to Greece, Caucasus, Armenia, Egypt, Florence, Rome and USA. Aivazovskii painted around six thousand paintings, drawings and watercolors. He died in Feodosia in 1900.
